    Aynsley’s Summer at Smith Gee

Our studio had the pleasure to welcome Aynsley to our team for the summer! As is tradition, we invited her to write a guest blog recapping her intern experience for us.

“This summer at Smith Gee Studio has been one for the books, and while I wish it wasn’t ending, it’s great to reflect on my time here as the next year of school quickly approaches. This place is incredibly special, from the wonderful collection of people who are deeply passionate about their community, to the seemingly endless amounts of office dogs (and hopefully one day, cats). Every aspect of working here has completely exceeded my expectations of what a “summer job” can be.

Throughout the summer, my team has consistently made sure that I have had the experience I wanted. From being asked what I wanted to join in on, to feeling fully welcome to speak on ongoing projects. I never felt like a “lowly intern to pass work to,” but instead, an active member of the team. Even going for lunch, adding to silly little office banter, or going to an art themed escape room became huge learning opportunities in understanding how a group of people should work together. Getting to be a part of a team with so much creative drive and attention to detail has made me incredibly excited for life after graduation.

Not only did I have the opportunity to work closely alongside my team, but was also welcomed by the entire office. By joining different teams on site visits, design charrettes, and committees, I have been able to fully emerge myself within the Smith Gee environment. Being able to openly collaborate as a young professional has always been very important to me, and is clearly a leading force in the office. Everyone, no matter their stage in career, offers so much to the culture here, and I am so glad I have been able to be a part of it.”

We wish Aynsley the best, and we’re so glad we got to spend the summer with her! She’ll be starting her 4th year in Architecture and Interior Design at Auburn this fall, and we know she’ll do great things!
