The goal of this effort was to study key development parcels within the city center’s Innovation District and develop a realistic vision for the targeted properties. The combination of significant recent investment in the District, and potential future investment opportunity creates the need to develop a plan that will encourage and guide appropriate development consistent with the Innovation District goals and objectives. The study area targets a specific portion within the Innovation District to address both immediate challenges and long-term opportunities.  With a majority of the development opportunities centered around MLK Blvd and the Bessie Smith cultural center, there is great opportunity to create public-private partnerships to establish high quality public spaces and implementation of innovative projects that respect the past, celebrate the city’s rich culture and explore new opportunities to create a robust Innovation District.
