Central BBQ – 21st Ave

In 2019, the nationally acclaimed Central BBQ began expanding beyond its Memphis roots, selecting Nashville for its first new location outside the city. Smith Gee Studio (SGS) led the design of this flagship restaurant near the state capitol, helping to bring the brand’s signature style to a new audience.

Following the success of the initial location, SGS was engaged to design a second Nashville outpost—this time transforming a neglected former restaurant near Vanderbilt University. Preserving the character of the original building, the design introduced key updates, including a convenient take-out window and a second-floor space dedicated to private events, creating a versatile and inviting dining experience.
