Urban Design Project Manager
Smith Gee Studio is seeking a passionate Project Manager to join our top-notch team of smart, creative, and fun people. We are looking for a collaborative partner to join us in driving innovation and creativity that makes a meaningful impact on the world. The candidate would assist us with both public and private sector projects, including large-scale master planning, urban design, design guidelines, entitlements, form-based codes, and the like. The ideal candidate will have strong project management, design expertise, and technical skills, ideally with 8+ years of experience in urban design. Smith Gee Studio’s collaborative culture is a big reason for our success and the candidate should have the ability to thrive within a team environment. The candidate should have a fundamental understanding of smart growth principles, traditional neighborhood design, urban development, zoning standards, and sustainable design. We pride ourselves in the ability to design plans that are both innovative and realistic. Our designs consider building systems, building codes, local codes, policies, and development standards. The ideal candidate will share our enthusiasm and commitment to high-quality place-making/urban design, community engagement, and sustainable design and will be skilled at quickly adapting to the shifting needs of our clients. Responsibilities
- Manage multiple complex scope from conception to completion
- Lead the design and drawing process for both large- and small-scale projects
- Collaborate with diverse groups of people on various teams
- Prepare designs and deliverables within project budgets and goals
- Learn and apply local codes and standards, including those of Metro Nashville
- Develop project schedules, work plans, budgets, and proposals
- Prepare entitlement applications and related graphics
- Coordinate with all Team Members – colleagues, sub-consultants, vendors, stakeholders
- Coordinate, build and maintain relationships with clients, stakeholders, consultants, vendors, and staff
- Monitors and tracks project progress, invoicing, and budget to meet goals and deadlines
Qualifications, Position Knowledge, Skills, and
Abilities:
- Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree in Architecture, Community/Urban Planning, Landscape Architecture, or a closely related field; advanced degree a plus
- Proven experience in urban planning and development issues
- Passion for design excellence
- Ability to fully communicate all aspects of design and mentor team members
- Proficiency in design and rendering tools (e.g., hand drawing, Photoshop, InDesign, SketchUp, AutoCAD)
- Self-motivated with solid organizational skills
- Ability to lead and facilitate community outreach processes and other presentations
- Capability to manage team members and coordinate all aspects of project workflow
- Advanced knowledge of sustainability and integrated design.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Strong interpersonal and analytical skills
